I'm hoping to access and reuse a few old hard drives from desktop and laptop pc's.
Is this what I need?. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141147734013?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Are there any better or cheaper alternatives?.

that looks like it'll do all combos of 2.5"/3.5"/IDE/SATA, so yes it should do the job..any cheaper? more ebay searching required, but £7-odd will be hard to beat.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
That's about as cheap as it gets.
However I bought a similar one from ebay a while back and the build quality was appalling, the mains adaptor was of dubious safety (I'm not sure the plug was fused on mine, I replaced it, and the socket where the mains cable plugged into the adaptor was very flimsy), and it seemed to only work intermittently.
I may have been unlucky with how it worked, but the general quality put me right off them (especially as the basic design seems to be the same regardless of where you buy that type from).
I ended up spending about £20 on a better unit from Amazon that acted as a full external cradle for SATA drives.0
