Artificial Lawn

I've just moved into a new house with artificial grass.. I'm not impressed and its going in the spring. Its nice from a distance but up close its horrid and I don't like walking on it.. plus anything that is deposited on it (think local cats etc) doesn't go away... ever!

I think I've read they aren't actually that bad for the environment, but it just seems wrong to me on all levels. The whole point of a garden is a little piece of nature isn't it?0

Someone near me had it laid in their open plan front garden last year. As you drive past, it looks like a very well maintained lawn - the colour isn't quite natural but it doesn't jar. It's on a slight slope and he just hoses it down occasionally to get rid of any mess - leaves, animal mess, etc.0
