Large electric bill and meter time problems

Our electric meter time is currently 84 hours behind and we have had a very large increase in our electric usage (we are a solely electric 3 bed house with storage heaters on economy 7). We have no different appliances to last year, we are actually using one less heater as we have had more insulation put in the loft, we are out of the house more than normal during the day, and have had a relatively warm winter so we have not had the heating up high, however we are apparently £300 in debt, could the timer be the problem?
Any help would be appreciated as Npower were no use.

So how does your actual usage compare to last year (on each register)? That's what matters. If your timer is 84 hours out then that is effectively 3.5 days, so it's 12 hours out. That would mean that your cheap rate is approx mid-day to 7pm-which may or may not be to your advantage.
Your £300 arrears may simply be due to your DD being too low, it doesn't automatically mean that your usage is higher. You need work out your comparative annual consumption on each register to do the maths before you investigate further.
    I though E7 timers were 24 hours?
    How were Npower 'no use'?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I have worked out our energy usage to be 2012-2013 24 hour meter= 2540 and heat = 4446 and 2013-2014 24 hour meter= 6814 and heat = 8492.
Going by this we have used nearly doubled the engergy from last year.
We have always paid more in the winter then in the summer however this year we kept the payments the same hoping it would all be covered (we haven't had an actual bill for a year because of there new computer system)

Npower were no use as they kept saying that there would be no fault with the meter so we were doing something wrong not matter how much we tried to explain that we are doing nothing different.

I am unsure of how the timer really works on the meter hence why I am asking if it was possible that this is the problem as it's the heat meter that has the date and time on it, however now I see the usage double I'm not sure what is going on.
