How can I sort out an item that I have bought, the seller now says they won't deliver for free and also now messaged to ask for payment via Bank Transfer, providing no protection through paypal. How do I report the seller, rather than just doing the generic report an item, as I can't leave much detail and cannot leave feedback as I have not paid for the item yet.

I assume it showed free postage rather than free to collect? Do not make a bank transfer, phone eBay and tell them you think you have a scammer for a seller.
You can leave feedback but if you do make sure it breaches no rules as you don't want it removed . If buyer tries to get funny and opens an NPB on you then pay via PayPal which will close the NPB.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Go to PayPal - does it say "Unclaimed"? If so - they don't have a PayPal account registered with that email address. You'll then want to cancel the payment!
That sounds likely, and to me that now flags this up as a scammer who has deliberately mistyped his paypal ID to force someone to use a bank transfer.
We had a thread around Christmas time where this had happened but where the buyer had recalled the paypal payment and made the bank transfer and received nothing.
Get on the phone to ebay now, use a PIN so you get straight through (use the fraud options under the contact us tab).I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
