Morning everyone, you move house without me :D

Can I start the day with a cooking question?

I am making quiche or at least vegetable flan. I've got some small indivual round tins and the normal round ones.
Does everyone blind bake the pastry first? Or does it only really matter if you are using a thick ceramic flan dish.
I've got go baking beans, don't even think I've got grease proof so what else can I use? Or can I just !!!!! the bases and pop them in the oven for a few mins to start them off?

Also my recipe needs 50g of breadcrumbs. I've never used these before in a flan so what are these before? I've got them ready anyway, looks a huge bowfull.

I've got youngest son home for a few days. At his house he now has a yvegetarian/vegan and that has re kindled his love of cooking. So he has been experimenting with cous cous and bought himself a vast quantity from ebay.
He has also got some flan tins but he got soggy bottoms so we are doing flans today to see if we can cure the soggy bottom problem.

I've got the pastry done and sitting in the fridge ready for him to roll out and the onions fried and ready.

    I've a
So got pancake mix ready for breakfast and the builder has arrived.
    Such fun

If its for quiche I don't blind bake first but do make my pastry very short (little more flour). My mum blind bakes everything and pricks the base too.
Think it is a personal thing and also due to surface mass. So if doing a small one no need to blind bake but if a large quiche it needs it.
    Sure pd can explain better.

No problem, sounds great as mine has 7 drawers. A friend asked me why I'm not downsizing as the kids left home :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Hope you find your paperwork, I have all my manuals together but they are in a filing cabinet, I was ridiculously excited to get a 4 drawer filing cabinet (free of course :D). Hopefully my freezer will keep going a while yet cost I have a lot of looking to do yet :D

Glad your CC order is awaiting collection :D

Well there was 5 of us here when I got it but ds3 and his gf were moving into their own place. I'd hate to be short of space and it made sense to keep to a large size.
I just kept looking at the same web sites over a few weeks watching and waiting once I had decided which freezer to go for (had a short list of3 in the end).
The Indesit matches my fridge and as they are out in the utility room they are out of site, I just use the undercounter fridge for open packets, tubs and bottles.
There's no place like home :)

Feeling down? Weak in body? Makes no difference to me, I think of you all when I'm sitting quietly.

Be careful if you want to use in a garage as that one seems to have a minimum temp of 16C. Check the company website as we came along these crazy high operating temps on loads of fridge/freezers - sometimes if you go to company website & look up model you'll find store has put wrong specifications on.

Have a look here as there are LOTS of different ones, some around same price.

I think that it's only Beko that make them for garages/outbuildings. Not sure that an insurance policy would cover other makes outside.

    Hi,

Anyone done the Iceland Bingo. Go through topcashback for £15.75 cashback and also deposit £10 and get £10 Iceland voucher and £40 to play with.

    Any thoughts ?

Yes, it works. The voucher comes pretty quick (about 10 days) and cashback comes a bit later. If you win, that's just a bonus!!

I think you will find that when you sign up and accept the bonus money to play with and win this will effect your withdrawal terms so be careful.

It'd be totally worth it if it improves your quality of sleep and comfort. After all you spend a good third of each day in bed :)

I totally agree. Recently I bought new fitted sheets as I was fed up with the ones I had popping off the mattress even though they were supposed to be for deep mattresses. The new ones are 16” deep Egyptian cotton, they feel so lovely , I love my bed now and don’t wake up so many times during the night since I got them :D

I have the 16" deep and they do make such a difference. The last lot that I bought were great, can't remember where I got them from now. I do need some for the spare rooms, so I start the hunt :)
