You can have a Halifax account and a Santander. Accounts need to see Money in and out. Don t have to keep it in. Halifax just needs to see 750 and two dds.

    easy peasy.

Santander did suggest to me that I could have 2 current accounts to earn 3% on both but I thought the jiggery pokery was getting a bit too complcated.

I've been with them for about 16 ish years. There was a while where I had nothing, them giving me an overdraft was kinda my last hope. They gave me it but I then spent the next ten years living in it.

They were no help at all when I got into trouble with bank charges. I saw them make a grown man cry with their refusal to help when they could have done.

They've had more than enough money out of me over the years, and now I've got a few quid in my account and am nowhere near touching my overdraft, they are falling over themselves to offer me the 123 account.

They weren't interested when I needed them so I'm !!!!!!ed if they're getting any of my money now

I've read somewhere (possibly on mse), banks lend you an umbrella when it's sunny then want to snatch it back as soon as it rains:(.

On the second point - they could have helped. But why should they? They are businesses that exist to make money.

That's a good idea though - and jiggery pokery and complexity is the way to go to get more money. They (just general, not specifically Santander) make it so complicated so that you don't go for that option and then they make more money than they would have done. If you have OH etc., you can have sole account and joint account at some places and in effect have two allowances beyond which no interest. So could get £5000 at 5% for Nationwide? (One a sole account and one a joint - but, be careful, if you are ever going to split up, half that money (or even all of it equally belonging to both of you) in the joint will be your OHs and can't get any of it without their say-so.)

I can't give financial advice and do not claim to do so. You should of course seek advice from elsewhere - do not rely on anything I say as I know nothing.

Right - with every other post now being mine:eek: - I will go off and see you later!:) Bye now.:):)

They were making the situation worse by charging for charges returned, so a returned DD was costing double in charges. They could have stepped in to help. They chose not to  they could see just how bad the situation was.

FC I doubt it is the news as been many things over the last year which would have triggered this.
Talking from experience there is not always a trigger except your own mind which can play nasty tricks especially with dreams.
I take sleeping pills not to help me sleep but to dull down the realness of my dreams (if that makes sense). I personally think your OH was due a relapse as it has been a while and he has achieved so much since the last one.
The only real hope is that no relapse should be as bad as the one before. So his way of being better is not sinking as low as the last relapse.
Knowing you have a wonderful family and a loving wife really doesnt make an impact as if your are very depressed you simply can't help yourself.

Time is the only thing really and he has all the time he needs to get back on track. So pleased ds1 has come back for the weekend as I feel he is the only one, apart from you who can do what is needed and he has been there every step of the way for you and I feel he understands his dad which is a big bond you share.

Sorry for long post but wanted to get accross that no matter what you do MH problems are so real for the people facing them.

    Evening all

Thanks V :A Im not good with things I can't totally understand, I like everything to have a reason :o You are probably right though.
DS1 took his dad out to the beach today.....so we both had a nice break. Im sure he must need a break from me sometimes too!

Next week OHs friend is coming to stay. He's a gem. They've been friends for over 20 years. He works overseas and can be away for weeks at a time. He's sadly going through a messy divorce and is effectively homeless as he is having to sell up. Ive asked him to stay with us when he's back in the country, until he's in a position to buy another place. It'll save him having to rent when he's only home for short periods.......and if Im completely honest, it will help me out a lot!
He needs a place to stay and I'm not a prisoner in my own home when he is here. The kids are very fond of him and it's good for OH to have some different company. Win....win!

Ah but if you met me you would be able to say " not everyone from Barnsley speaks like that":p

You'll be telling me next that you don't bath the Little Monkeys in the proper traditional Yorkshire way - in the back yard, in a giant Yorkshire pudding, with gravy.

I agree, banks make business decisions.
As should we, regardless of what happened previously, if it makes more money in Santander (and it does) thats where it should go.

Why should a business help it's customers ?

Ask yourself that question a few times...

Why would I want to help my customers ?

Repeat business and good word of mouth advertising because of good customers service = more business to make money from.
Back to square one, no apg, no comment.
