Mass building of social housing is probably the most future protective decision that can be made by any government at this time, it will solve numerous issues.

The issue is the ideologists dont like expanding state's which mass building of social housing is, and those with vested interests in property wouldnt like it as well.

I see your point I don't blame current home owners - more houses should be built though to hopefully bring prices down or wages should go up

    OK, re-phrase that question.
Would you like a large estate of very cheap houses to be built near you, so that your house value plummets 50% ?

How about changing the London centric world of work? You get a perfectly decent two bed terrace where I am for £60k. My three bed semi, large garden, seperate garage, nicely (IMO;)) done out, £130-135k.

All the EA near me are packed full of young FTB all bright eyed about owning there first home. It's such a nice sight to see. Well down to gov on helping out the FTB.

This country has so many hard working young. It breaks my heart to see them renting. How can house prices be so high? It's so unfair. The young should refuse to work/go on strike in protest.

Presumably you're no longer such a fan of Govt schemes intended to raise house prices then?

There are many bad ideas on here, but I've never seen one as bad as yours.

Don't worry, when you've been on here a few years you will see loads just as bad

The boomers went on strike and got everything they wanted time for the young to do the same

When did the boomers go on strike?

When did the boomers get everything they wanted?

How often do people going on strike get everything they want?

Do you know what you are talking about?

People who will "get what they want" will achieve this through working and building it up over time. It just takes time and effort, as it always has done.

Houses affordable for the 'masses' to buy is a relatively new thing , what is different is the lack of affordable rental property , the right to buy put paid to that

Not sure what striking would achieve , I thought the way to go these days was to start up an e - petition ( roll eye smiley)

Why would building more house reduce the prices ? they would all cost the same to build

Totally agree - probably takes more of both and more likely to require two full time incomes, to achieve it, these days though.

IMO, more social housing should be built and at least 90% of that let to people in work. These can then be sold off later at just above cost price, with whoever netting the rent between.

Solves both the housing crisis and property prices.

    CK

So would you put a minimum number of years before the houses could be bought ? selling them just above cost price could be seen as 'ripping off' the tax payer

Presumably with the proviso that if the houses were to be sold again , they cant be sold at market value ?

IMHO social housing should never be sold
