How can house prices be so high it's so unfair on the young stars

This country has so many hard working young. It breaks my heart to see them renting. How can house prices be so high? It's so unfair. The young should refuse to work/go on strike in protest.

I agree. But they have been brought up by their ever so compliant parents to believe that protest and striking are fundamentally wrong and that withdrawing your labour is something done by their grand parents in the bad old days while being manipulated by the union barons.
If their parents are wrong, then these young people need to learn what a union is and join one.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

Will you sell your house to me cheap? Or would you rather get as much as you can? There's your answer0 -
I see your point I don't blame current home owners - more houses should be built though to hopefully bring prices down or wages should go up0

It's an interesting question and on the face of it, it does seem rather unfair, though there are some silver linings to that cloud.
Aside from the cost of buying a house, in some ways I can see that moving towards a predominantly rental based housing market could be beneficial to people of working age.
It would be less costly and difficult for people to relocate should they need to due to a change in their financial or employment circumstances. With the increasing void between house prices and wages, any changes to employment or financial circumstances would have quite an impact on someone who has bought at boom/post boom prices.0 -

That'll help 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

IMO, more social housing should be built and at least 90% of that let to people in work. These can then be sold off later at just above cost price, with whoever netting the rent between.
Solves both the housing crisis and property prices.

If they don't work, then how do you propose that they pay their rent, eat, and heat their houses?
There are many bad ideas on here, but I've never seen one as bad as yours.0 -
The boomers went on strike and got everything they wanted time for the young to do the same0

There is a few reasons I think, plus many more probably.
1 - Now days houses are seen as investments instead of places to live by too many people.
2 - Chronic shortage of social housing is helping fuel a BTL market which in turn is keepingprices high.
3 - Successive government's artifically inflating the market, I assume for vested interests.0 -
