I got a local retailer to build me a new desk top machine and i received it from hjim just before Christmas, i was unwell at the time and havent had a chance to look at my new system until today. It has windows 8.1 installed on it and its 64bit.
The motherboard is an Asus H81I-PLUS and i tried to connect to my router with no success. Spoke to the guy who told me that there was no wifi card with the board and that he had given me a wifi dongle so that i would be able to connect to bband.
i rang BT who were very helpful and tried the system etc but could not get me connected either their rep said that the wifi dongle wasnt showing up either and that i would need one of these to be able to go wireless. Every time we tried to plug in the wifi usb it kept coming up saying usb not recognised by system, i tried it in my laptop and it said that it could not install drivers, the usb is a Dynamode N one.
Here's the questions
Is their no wifi card or slot with this motherboard?
If not why could a wifi cared be installed on motherboard
if this is possible can you let me know what type of one etc i would need
why will this usb not work
is there a certain type of wifi usb dongle that i could buy and where from
Sorry for the long winded thread but i will be most grateful if someone can help me please.

According to the Asus site, the motherboard you have has onboard ethernet connection (as do nearly all motherboards these days) It should just plug in and go - unless the drivers for the motherboard and/or ethernet port haven't been installed properly. Can you see a physical connection in the network adaptor list?0

The motherboard you have is a micro atx 2 board so only has 1 PCIe slot. This is probably being used by the graphics card so there wont be any room for a wifi card.
The dongle (dynamode) is probably having an issue with windows 8.1, as this introduced some new driver model requirements and manufacturers are having to update their drivers to cater for this.
This is a known issue with a lot of usb dongles, personally Id go for an intel based one
