Hi Katie I have spoken to the neighbours, a nice young couple. They agree it needs replacing with a stronger fence and say they will ask their landlord to pay half. They both work and from the amount of boxes they chuck out spend a lot on household stuff.
I have had a chap round today to quote to replace the fence. Waiting to hear back on that.0 -
I had thought of a wall! Getting a quote for 6ft high solid fence.0

Why would they think the LL would pay half unless he intends to deduct it from their deposit?
They are either very naive, or they are just telling you what you want to hear to keep the peace.0 -
Our fences are right side when facing property. Next door has an alsation which has already been through 2 panels, they won`t replace even though it`s their side, as we`ve a young grandchild we had to pay.0

Well, after a tea time dog spat I have had another chat with neighbour. She agrees to pay half, then she will try to get their landlord to pay for some of their half.
Happy with that.
But, of course, will see what happens when the bill comes in.0 -
Your neighbours sound like proper chancersNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

Your boundaries are right side when facing the property.
AFAIK there is generally no legal requirement to erect nor maintain any form of fence on a boundary.0 -
Let your dogs out on lead supervised so they are not antagonising the labrador!0

A 4ft fence is not ideal when you've got dogs on both sides.
Are they telling their LL the full story because I too would be charging the tenant for this. Have you actually spoken to the landlord directly about the matter? An opinion is just that..... An opinion0 -
I don't have any contact details for the landlord. I met him when he was doing some work there when he bought the house last year. Nice retired chap. Don't think it my place to contact him tho I do know which agency deals with it.
I also agree it's not really fair for the landlord to pay. But that is up to him. He is a very new landlord. But I can't see him paying anything. It's really the tenants problem. Am sure he won't be happy when he sees what used to be a lovely lawn. Now churned up mud. Will take more than a box of grass seeds to fix.
After the tea time spat today we have agreed not to let dogs out when the other one/s is out. Should only be for a week as my builder said he can do the fence next week. Just waiting for a price ....
A 4ft lap fence is no good for separating dogs! But it was fine for my 2 little ones. Replacing it with a 6ft solid wood fence.0
