Notice of Correction - Good Idea/Bad Idea?

Afternoon all,

Firstly, thanks for all the help you don't know you've given me over the years. This forum is always a gold mine of info and experience.

My question in short is this: I am not on the electoral for my current address, the paperwork has been sent but I'm well aware this will take months to show up in credit searches and I wish to apply for a mortgage now. So is it sensible to put a NOC in my credit report saying that I can prove my address by other means? My credit history is otherwise fine. What are peoples thoughts and experiences? Does the existence of a NOC make lenders nervous regardless of content or is it a good way to add extra info in the short term?

Many thanks, Rich

We weren't on the electoral when we applied for our mortgage and it didn't cause any issues, you just need to be prepared to prove your address in another way (such as council tax bill, utility bill, etc).

Try not to worry too much...my understanding is that it is merely an easy way for the lender to prove your address. If everything else is good on your credit report, it should be fine.

The latest version of the electoral roll was published last week and will be purchased and updated by the CRAs in the next month, or so.

Do not add a notice of correction for this.

As long as you were on the electoral roll at your other addresses, you'll be fine as this is nothing but a very short term issue and unimportant unless you are applying for a mortgage next week and even then it may make no difference.

  • You won't appear till April 1st which is the date Experian have decided to make us all wait until. Don't know about mortgages but it helped recently when I was credit checked for a new rented house. Before that I was declined a card and the only difference was later having added a notice of correction, so try it.
  • Thanks for all the info guys. I decided to leave the notice of correction. In the end I DID get on the electoral role, I'd filled in separate paperwork to be on the role (rather than the yearly census) and sent it special delivery a few weeks before I posted here. I actually got a note from the registration officer confirming my addition and when I signed up to the experian 30 day free trail they had the up to date info as well! I can tell you I was pretty amazed!

When it came to applying for the mortgage I just eneded up with a referal descision rather than a straight yes or no, so the underwriter wanted proof of my address, not a big deal. But other than that all fairly smooth.

    Thanks again.
