Hi guys
My old PC is still running XP and is coming up on eight years old so am now looking to change it - I'll use it for internet, social networking, emails, office tasks and some gaming although nothing new. I have a budget of about £350. I'd really appreciate some advice on what I should be looking for and any suggestions about models and / or retailers.
Many thanks.

Why change it if it still works for you.
While newer system will be faster and the operating system possibly more modern, the real meat and potatoes are still the same. A bit like buying a farrari to drive in london
Wait till it dies, but back it up first.0 -

PC means Personal Computer, not Tower Only.
It is just as easy to assume that someone with an eight year old PC might need a new monitor.
In addition I don't think I seen anyone ask about a PC & Monitor....simply because you can't have one without the other.
So they would usually write that they do not need a monitor, if they don't need one.
So until then, I would usually assume that they do need one, especially to take advantage of the capabilities of a super duper new tower unit.0 -
If new monitor is wanted, there is this MEDION AKOYA PC E4028 DR within budget, for £259 + £6.95 Del.0

I bought this from Palicom recently

Very pleased with it, very fast and quiet and delivered to the agreed schedule.
Can be customised to your spec if you want to upgrade (or downgrade) any components and you get a choice of W7 or W8 within the price quoted0 -
Why not learn how to upgrade the existing one?
Will surely be cheaper than £350?0 -

Surely the only thing that can be reused is the casing?
If it's Xp it's maybe ten years old.- PC2100 memory,
- AGPs /PCI graphics slots
- 300w psu with molex connectors.
- ps2 keyboard / mouse
- mboard maybe can't take sata
- not enough usbs
- optical drives molex.
- oh and the small matter of a 64 bit OS.
- and will the new stuff work?
- and will you break some of it, seeing as you don't know the ins and outs
