you can get a hardship payment quicker by going directly to your local job centre.
these punitive sanction regimes were brought in by ian duncan smith last year and have sent loads of people to food banks for the most minor indiscretion. now if you miss an appointment theyll cut your money off for one month, 6 months then 3 years for each time, its completely punitive and disproportionate and i would advise never to vote for the tories in the future.

There are a lot of people who agree with the principle of sanctions, and applaud the government for actually enforcig some sensible conditions on receipt of benefits. It is not designed to be free money, with no conditions attached.

Like me, they probably all want them applied fairly and correctly, with mistakes being rare and swiftly corrected, but it's about time there was some form of sanction applied to claimannts who are not sticking to their siide of the deal.

Typical tory outlook all claimants dont want to work.:eek:8

    Many do, some don't.

Some on here, for example, look for every excuse under the sun to not apply, or not accept jobs. It's fair enough that they don't get JSA if they take this attitude.

Just shows how ill informed you are about why amd when sanctions are given out to make that comment.
Please explain. From what I have seen the rules are pretty simple.

This would get me voting tories. Glad that a sense of self responsibility is making a comeback to the money for nothing types. Screw up, pay the price.

By the way, it's not your money.

    It is your money actually.
You have paid NI contributions in the past. Resulting benefits payments (if required) is what you are paying for through your NI contributions.

Caught stealing say a computer from a shop. Quite likely that you will get a fine in court and perhaps community service. And many people don;t pay their court fines.

Don;t apply for one job that the DWP say you should be applying to, and you can get sanctioned for 4 weeks.
It is quite likely that this leaves someone without any money to live on for this 4 week period (and for a minimum of 2 weeks out of this 4 week period).
Hardship payments are discretionary and only pay out after the first 2 weeks of the sanction period.

A real sense of perspective in the system, isn;t there?

    I think not.

From this comment it is clear you haven't a clue what you're talking about!!

Yes, at the moment I am claiming JSA which you claim is not my money. Prior to being on JSA I have worked for 40 years and paid into the system through my taxes and N.I. payments which I think gives me a right to say it is my money that I'm claiming at the moment. I'm sure you haven't paid into the system for 40 years !!!

It's yours, once you've received it, after fulfilling the conditions.

If you do not qualify, via sanctions or otherwise, then you don't get to say that it's yours any longer, and you don't any longer have a right to it.

The money being used to pay benefits, belongs to all of us, including any claimants, as everyone pays tax, either directly or indirectly.
