jsa sanction and hardship payment advice

Hi, basically I'mon JSA and was sanctioned for two weeks, today was my due payment day but since I was sanctioned I obviously wasn't. I applied for a hardship payment to bide me over for these two weeks and today as I hadn't heardanything I rang them to ask about the payment, I was told I had been approved for the hardship payment but I won't receive it until my next sign on date, is this correct? What am I supposed to do for 2 weeks without money? Surely a hardship payment should be paid during the period where you have no money?

Sorry but sanction is likely to be at least 4 weeks - now min sanction period.. For the inital 2 week period sanction period no JSA is payable. Hardship payment - 60% of JSA- will kickin after that.
All the best0 -
Thank for the quick response and advice guys, appreciated.0

Do you disagree with the sanction? If so ask for a mandatory reconsideration and if this is turned down appeal - two stage process these days - and fight it - it won't help you right now but it will be money back if you can get it over turned0

You could also try to get a referral to a Food Bank (you can't just turn up, you have to have a voucher.) That would get you 3 days worth of basic foods.3 stone down, 3 more to go0

you can get a hardship payment quicker by going directly to your local job centre.
these punitive sanction regimes were brought in by ian duncan smith last year and have sent loads of people to food banks for the most minor indiscretion. now if you miss an appointment theyll cut your money off for one month, 6 months then 3 years for each time, its completely punitive and disproportionate and i would advise never to vote for the tories in the future.0 -

This would get me voting tories. Glad that a sense of self responsibility is making a comeback to the money for nothing types. Screw up, pay the price.
By the way, it's not your money.0 -
