How long should you have to wait for refund from NPower?

I discovered (by accident) that I had a faulty gas meter late Aug 2013. After numerous phone calls to Npower (my supplier)the meter is replaced by National Grid end Sept 2013 and sent for independent testing. A month later certificate arrives saying that meter was so defective it couldn't be tested.
After months of providing regular meter readings and phone calls Npower executive complaints finally adjusted my bill which resulted in a balance on my account in excess of £1200. We agreed on 4.2.14 that they would transfer the balance into my bank account, as it is money that I have already overpaid them through having faulty meter. I am still waiting for this money over 3 weeks later. I phoned to query where the money was and was told that it can take up to 28 days for this to happen.
28 days......it is my money!
Is this wait acceptable? Anyone else any ideas?

Unfortunately legally 28 days for a company to refund is acceptable. Exceptionally irritating though.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/consumer-rights-refunds-exchange mentions a 30 days period.0 -

Hi frankieb1612,
As 28 days have passed since your refund was agreed on 4 February 2014, you should have now received this. If you haven't please drop me an email with your details using the address from my profile page and I'll be happy to chase this up for you.
Thanks
Leigh
