Windows Firewall

Hi - Windows Firewall has suddenly turned itself off and I can't get it to restart. I've tried following the 'Recommended' instructions - it tells me I need to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Sharing Service then gives me an error message saying it can't start the service. I tried one of the alternatives (Comodo) but this seemed to slow everything down and I was eventually having problems connecting to the internet at all. Can anyone offer any advice?

Click Start - Run - type services.msc - OK. Start Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service from there and post the exact error message if it doesn't start.

Hi Chippy - tried this, and got this error message :

"Could not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service on local computer. Error 999: error performing inpage operation"

Is the Comodo firewall disabled or uninstalled? If not do so and try starting the service again.

Try sfc /scannow and reboot. If no joy, run System Restore and go back a day or 2 to when it was working. Also scan for spyware/malware (following the sticky thread on this forum).

which AV package do you have installed, norton etc?
