Zulu Dawn?

Has anyone heard from Zulu Dawn after his wife asked for some time apart? I just wondered how he was doing.

Not heard in the last few days but I think I recall reading that he had no access to the net outside of his work, so perhaps won't be able to log on at the weekend?

    Hi there.

We've decided to spend some time apart. The plan is that we will use this break to get our heads straight and have a think about how to tackle the future. We are both working at it and I am optimistic we can sort this out.

Clearly we can't change the past or the mess that we are in, but for us to go forward we need to come to terms with where we are and find a path forward that works for both of us.

I'm staying with my family, which is fine, though the longer it goes on, the more difficult it will become.

One positive is that my wife seems to have finally come to terms with the unpalatable fact that my debt is going to require sacrifices by her. It is not fair but it is the only way we will get out of this mess.

The kids are basically OK and I see them most days. I did get a call from my very upset six year old last night who was missing me and wanted me back which was very hard. The good news is that we are spending today together as a family and this brightened him up immeasurably. I just hope we can all get through it successfully.

I remain positive and hopeful. The is not the end but the end of the beginning (or something like that!).

    Take care,

    ZD

Thanks for the update ZD - I'm sorry things haven't got any easier but I hope you have a fab day today and that it does manage to work out. I'm glad she's realised the enormity of the debt too.

    Hi kaz

I'm pleased to say that things are going very well. We are talking and I've just managed to engineer a babysitter for Sunday afternoon so we can spend some time together without the kids. I am hopeful about our future but we need to ensure some ground rules so that we don't end up in the same place a few months down the line. It would be wrong for us to rush back together too quickly but it looks as though getting back together will be the most likely outcome - scary but comforting.

The other plus side is that it is probably cheaper for us in our current situation as I am getting subsidised by my family who refuse to let me pay for much and my wife is also not spending much either so I think we might have saved a few quid.

However the money situation continues to be a great strain and I spent a depressing morning yesterday dealing with the latest aspects of my DMP. I've just found out that two of my creditors (Egg loan and Amex via RMA) are continuing to charge interest despite verbal assurances that they would not. This adds another £1k to my overall debt position. I'm also reaching the one year point since the DMP started so will no doubt be back doing negotiations with them all again over the coming months. Will they be sympathetic to the £400 increase in my mortgage in the last year - I think not!!!

It's a constant reminder of the past- something which is hard to deal with. You get told in GA that if you spent 10 years doing damage, you are not going to be able to fix it in 10 minutes and thats something I need to keep in mind as I struggle through the coming months.

    Thanks for caring,

Good to hear from you. Glad that things as slowly sorting themselves out, taking it slow is the best way.
