This time with dishwasher tablets in a recent test by Which? to find the best dishwasher tablet Aldi and Lidl came out 2 and 3rd only beat by Fairy Platinum, now the fairy tablets work out at 40p per wash whereas the Aldi and Lidl ones only 10p per wash, Which? estimate shoppers could save on average £100 per year!

I've been using their dishwasher stuff for years, mostly Lidl. I use the separate tablets, rinse and salt. Lidl has the best container with a pourer, worth the money just for that. I noticed rinse aid in Aldi this week but it was with the specials so may not be a regular line and not sure how it compares for price.
  • I use Aldi or Lidl dishwasher tablets but only half a tablet for each wash. Saves even more money and the dishes are clean.
My secret fantasy is having 2 men....
    1 cooking and 1 cleaning.

Nahhh gave that one up years ago apart from the fact we do not have the time to stand there endlessly washing and scrubbing pots and pans you never ever get them anywhere near as clean as a dishwasher does, someone who has never had a decent dishwasher will say that is a load of rubbish but when you have had a decent dishwasher it is so true, even if you could stand there washing them in near boiling water you still would not get them anywhere near as clean.

Lidl & Aldi scored second & third in dishwasher tablet tests.
I think I'll have to try the Lidl ones.

You can fudge any result you like.

Take this one, They were tested for PRICE and Cleaning. Obviously aldi/lidl would have scored high marks for price and even low marks for cleaning would have taken them to the top.

Fairy Platinum on the other hand, would have scored very low marks for price, so must have got high marks for cleaning.

They don't say much about the cleaning side for aldi/lidl, execp
Lidl was described as 'brilliant at washing off everyday stains' and Aldi's Magnum tablets were praised for doing well with stubborn stains.
No mention of how lidl did with stubborn stains and as for aldi "doing well with stubborn stains", I've heard women on the school sports field describing their kids as "doing well" for coming last in the sack race.......The phrase means nothing.

If their kids had won they would have said so, and if lidl cleaned off the stubborn stains, Which would have said so too!

Let me put your mind at rest on this one:

    Fairy Platinum All in One
    Which? test score: 84%
    Cost per wash: 40p

    Lidl W5 All in 1
    Which? test score: 80%
    Cost per wash: 10p

Aldi Magnum All in 1 Complete
    Which? test score: 77%
    Cost per wash: 10p

Not really that much more effective at cleaning for four times the price. :)

No, I see where Geordie joe is coming from. The score is made up of performance AND price, so the 4th best cleaner might have been a better cleaner, but lidl & aldi would have scored high on price & got points for that. I would like to see two results, one regardless of price & then with price. So performance alone & then value for money.

I'm afraid you misunderstand the way Which? report their results. Perhaps this will reassure you:

Score: Ignores price. Based on: cleaning (90%), filming and cloudiness (15%), drying and watermarks (15%), Brilliance (10%)
