Panasonic freeview dvd vcr sudden selfcheck and U80 error message

tonight I have been using my Panasonic freeview dvd vcr recorder unit and at about 6.30pm it suddenly froze up the U80 error message appeared on the lcd display a message appeared on screen saying press OK for a self check;this it did on the freeview tuner then the vcr section then the dvd section and it restarted itself and returned to normal. There is nothing wrong mechanically with the unit. Is this a normal occurrence as I've never had this happen before.

Anyway, I've had one of these units and was able to repair it the first time when a capacitor right in the middle had gone (you can see it has burst and leaked), and it lasted a year. When I went to repair it again, the capacitor looked fine, and the other common fault is the chip. This was beyond my soldering skills but I gave it a go. And failed. Oh well.
If you've any idea how to use a screwdriver and soldering iron, it's worth having a go at fixing it yourself, at least try the capacitor.
If not, stick it on eBay and describe the problem, someone will buy it to repair.
