Npower budget billing payment scheme robbery

Options
I fought really had for Npower to produce my bill from Sept 2013 to 19 Dec 2013. However my last bill ending Sept 2013 shown £12.82 debt. I must say I have been on their budget billing payment scheme since I signed up about 2 years ago and was paying monthly direct debit of £104 for dual energy supply.

On my current bill from Sept 2013 to Dec 2013, they have added up an amount of £104 to the debt of £12.84 from my previous bill statement and tagged as "Budget billing payment scheme to be added to amount left to pay"

Does this represent interest accrued on £12.84 over three months period which is now £104.? Surprisingly my account is in credit about £188.00

I had sent them complaint message and demand clear explanation on the 6th of February but still have nit heard from them. I am contemplating to take this a bit further to Ofgen if the situation doesnt change or improve.

I have the same issue with this matter. I also recently changed energy supplier and received my final bill. I do not understand this scheme and I am not even made aware of this scheme and that this has a cost attached to it. Can you find this is the document contract when you signed up with nPower? I cannot see mine unfortunately.

My account is £477 in credit, paying monthly by direct debit, on dual fuel- they have deducted my 2 months usage for gas and electricity (fair enough), then charged me £165 with this payment scheme and they took back a refund they provided to me which i believe is the dual fuel-direct debit discount - this discount is what they market to encourage customers to sign up for both gas and electricity with them and I do not know why they are taking this back. Now my final bill says i need to pay them £66! This is totally unacceptable.

I just sent them my complaint and see how this goes.
  • Why don't both of you just give them a call?

If you have not already done so call and sort it out with an advisor I am sure they can sort this out or provide a reasonable explanation. If not then take it further lol.

  • It's likely to be due to a debt that was on the account being spread over a number of months/weeks. You should have had a payment schedule confirming the payment amounts and dates when it was agreed.

    Hi Carmel,

I have tried to send you my account details through your profile page but cant seem to locate the right contact link.
  • Why don't both of you just give them a call?

You hit the nail right on the head!!!

I called them a couple of days and the lady who answered was very helpful. She explained to me that the amount of £104 described as budget billing payment scheme was actually an unpaid amount in December by my bank as there was problem with my direct debit instructions. However since my monthly direct debit was £104, their system still recognized the payment as paid. Therefore when preparing the bill this amount ought to be debited.

I have checked my bank statements and this anomaly was confirmed.

Also my credit on the account has now been paid to me.:j
