Can anyone confirm 100% whether this comes unlocked? I would like this phone, but only on my Orange SIM.

    Thanks,
    Andy

    Hi Andy,

I bought this phone after reading this thread, - although the invoice enclosed with the phone stated that the handset was sim free, the phone IS locked to o2. furthermore, the phone came loaded with a particularly unpleasant o2 branded firmware. I had the phone unlocked at the local market for £1.50, then loaded a generic firmware via http://www.wotanserver.com using the USB cable supplied with the phone for a further cost of £4.86.

de-branding a phone is totally pointless, plus it costs money

Well, I suppose it comes down to personal taste - a lot of people pay extra to have metallic paint on their new car, but I suppose that's "pointless" too...

Debranding doesn't always have to cost money either, - I chose to pay to use a server to debrand my phone, but could have done it myself for free, I just didn't have time to read up on the subject first.

Personally I'm quite happy to pay less than a fiver to remove all the o2 branding from my phone, and the phone does seem to run a bit faster with generic firmware.

However, - you're quite right that de-branding mobile phones certainly doesn't save money in any way, and so a discussion about de-branding probably doesn't belong on this forum.
