HMRC keep emergency taxing me

Hi there, over 2 years ago, I changed business units within the same company but had to exit one payroll and join a new one. In that process, HMRC seemed to emergency tax me, I investigated it and they blamed it on my company as it appeared -on paper- as though I had 2 jobs. The bottom line is, in that year, I paid higher tax than I probably should have and my company ended up picking the bill for the extra £2K HMRC demanded at the end of it. The issue I have now is that I joined a new company, all paperwork was submitted duly and I have now been informed that I will emergency taxed AGAIN and for the whole of 2014/2015 so they can 'recoup the money owed'! The thing is my salary has gone down but I do have a car allowance (the total of both is slightly LOWER than my previous salary). I do NOT earn anywhere near £100K. What should I do? I called to protest the new code 58T but HMRC don't care....it feels as though I appeared on a 'owing tax' list a couple of years ago and now they just keep an eye and tax me anyway.

While you're about it it would be useful if you can find your codes and payslips (also P60s and/or P45s - the summary of pay and tax at year end/job change) going back over this period, so that you can be given accurate information.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

1. If you paid 'higher' tax than you should have done there would have been a refund, not a tax bill. That would be a personal bill, not one for your employer.
2. Is this the 2grand that is now included in your current tax code?0 -
Thanks, Valli. Thread now moved.
Marliepanda, pls see if my moved post with extra info answers your question.0
