Quote for retiling bathroom floor + walls

Options
After putting it off for a very long time, we finally got quotes for retiling the bathroom floor and walls (2 separate quotes as not sure if can afford to do both at the same time!)

None of the quotes actually include the cost of the tiles.

Floor (currently all loose and wobbly as previously the tiles had been stuck directly to the floorboards?!)

Needs 4m2 of tiles

Removal of sink, toilet and bath panel

Removal of all tiles and preparation of floor.

Boarding out of floor using 9mm water resistant plywood.

Floor tiling of area as agreed.

Grouting, siliconing, cleaning.

Re installation of sink, toilet, trimmed bath panel and trimmed door.

Total cost: £430.00

Walls

9.6m2 tiles needed

Includes removing all the stuff as above

Total cost £550.00

Is that reasonable or extortionate??

Really? I've picked the guy because he did some work for us in our other bathroom and we were very pleased with it, also he said he'd done some work at a house down the street whom we could talk to for a reference... Hmmm, not really sure what to do now!! :)

book him quick! hes worked for you before and done a smart job, bit of a no brainer to me!

if u do them both together, as it seems u have another bathroom, you can prob knock £200 off the total price not need to remove stuff twice

Definitely very reasonable even if it doesn't include adhesive & grout! And as F_Bear says, if you do both jobs together then you avoid repeating the job of removing the sanitary ware so should get a reduction. One point though . . . When tiling onto a wooden floor I wouldn't line it with anything less than 15mm ply. 9mm just isn't thick enough. And it should be screwed, not nailed, at roughly 4 - 5" centres.
  • Thanks very much guys will take that on board! :-)
