DFD - no Completion Cert!

I'm with DFD and although my IVA arrangement finished 11 months ago - they wont issue Completion certificate - apparently due to o/s PPI claim. However, if I'm still financially liable until the CompCert issued - how can this be right?? In other words - the IVA was not for a 5 year period as promised(which I complied with) - it was for as long as the IP want to keep it open and claim delay due to PPI claim - and still potentially take monies from me way beyond the amounts and timescale I contracted to?? If I get new job, inheritance, win lottery - even though IVA arrangement fully paid off - they can still take?? I was told I would be debt free in 5 years. This is simply not true! Not sure about PPI policies being mis-sold - think it's time IVA's & some IP's were called to account for what they sell? Sorry to some on here in this industry if they provide good advice - but am feeling very bitter over the total disregard for the individuals (such as myself) who have been through a very difficult and stressful 5 years believing it will soon be all over - only to find out it may never end and the IP may not be representing your best interests - just earning themselves more fees at your expense? Why do DFD feel they have the right to do what they want and not be accountable for the quality/accuracy for the service they provide? I've complied with all my obligations - paid all monies requested over the five years and now want to rebuild my life. DFD - NOW DO YOUR PART AND PROVIDE ME WITH A COMPLETION CERTIFICATE! Yes, I have phoned & written to DFD - no response as yet. If you haven't guessed - very angry and totally dissolutioned!

  • Hello Phil

I have a lot of sympathy with those who are still in an IVA due to the delay with the PPI fiasco. Unfortunately we are seeing a lot of unhappy customers - quite rightly so - where the PPI process is holding up the certificate. As this wasn't something that was around when most people took out an IVA 5 or so years ago it causing a few problems of the best way to deal with it. As you have found in your own case some firms do seem to be handling it better than others. It has not been unheard of that people are still waiting 2 years after they made their last payment for the completion certificate.

The general consensus has been to keep on at the IVA company to wrap things up as it is seems that those who shout the loudest get the quickest results, not something you should have to do but I think anything that works has got to be a good thing.

Good luck and I hope the certificate is not delayed for too much longer.

  • Hi Phil

Having spoken to DFD about a different matter I was advised that there is a meeting in April which should mean PPI stops affecting completion certificates getting sent out (providing everything else is satisfactory with the IVA) so I hope this means you will see yours soon.

    Good Luck.

I would advise making a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service regarding this matter.

The Financial Ombudsman Service can investigate DFD and put pressure on them as to why they wont send you the completion certificate.

If as you say the IVA has now finished they are legally bound to send you the completion certificate.

The FOS has no jurisdiction over Insolvency Practioners.

To make a complaint about Debt Free Direct, you need to follow the procedures set out here http://www.debtfreedirect.co.uk/sites/default/files/Complaints_Procedure_for_IVA_Customers.pdf
