Withdrawn charges
Hi there, does anyone know what the 'withdrawn charges' element on my Powergen bill might relate to?
I had always assumed that it was the difference between an estimated bill and the actual meter reading. On my bill its previously been a comfortably high sum but this time its more than the total amount of the previous bill, which makes me wonder what on earth they have been doing with my account. ( I have been sending my own regular readings in this quarter instead of relying on theirs). If doing this really results in a reduction of such a high amount they must be raking it in from the customers who aren't checking their meters. Any further info will be welcome, as they have me seriously confused. Many thanks from Jandy.
P.S. I have queried the bill with them, but they say its correct.

I assume you were sent an estimated bill and then provided an accurate meter reading which was used to generate a revised bill. When this is done all the charges from the estimated bill (excluding VAT and any discounts) are withdrawn (cancelled) and you are rebilled from the readings on your bill previous to the estimated one up to the new readings you have provided. For example if you got an estimated bill dated 20th June for £105 (inc VAT) then provided an actual meter reading you would receive an amended bill. On this will you would see something along the lines of "withdrawn charges from statement dated 20 June 2007 £100 cr".
Obviously without seeing the actual bill I couldn't say whether it is right or not but it sounds correct to me.0
