Hi Guys,
Does anyone understand about claiming benefits?
I have never claimed benefits before, but 5 days ago I lost my job, I worked there for 8 months. Previously, I worked for a company for 15 years and was made redundant.
Just want to know what I can claim as never been on benefits before, and if possible what amounts I should expect.
I am married, with 3 children aged 6 and 4 and 3 months old.
If you need more information, let me know.
Many Thanks
PAUL

you say that you 'lost' your job, but what exactly do you mean?
you would claim JSA for you and your partner (£112 a week) plus child tax credits for your children
depending on whether you have a mortgage or are renting, you may get help towards housing costs and council tax.
if you left your job, or were sacked, you may be snactioned for up to 26 weeks depending on the reason0 -
Put your details into the calculator here:

for a good guide to what you can claim.
As already said you would apply for JSA in the first place. (You can do that online)0 -

I have a mortgage, but no insurance cover incase I lost my job.
I am thinking of going self employed.

You'd probably be able to claim child benefit and child tax credits.
The limit for child tax credits for 3 children is around £38000
Hi,
My partner does not work.
Do you mean we get upto £38000 per year in benefits, are you sure. I have been working for the past 6 years for £30000 with only standard child benefit...
Thinking of being self employed, if so, what is the max wage I can earn before child tax credit and council tax/housing benefit is taken away?
Still feeling confused with it all :undecided0
