iCloud and Word Documents

Hope someone can help me.
Today I downloaded the iCloud onto my pc in the hope that I could upload some files to iCloud; download them onto the iPad - would noteability do the job - and play around with them. Just to see how it might help me at work.
The iCloud box that I'm seeing seems to give three options:
Contacts, calanders and tasks,
Bookmarks and
Folders.
I see no reference to documents.
Before posting I had a look around other Forums and while most of the post dated back to 2012 to late 2013 they seem to suggest that you can't put Word docs (and I suppose for that matter MS Office material) on the iCloud. Is this correct?
On the assumption it is correct - how do I get to see letters or other documents that I've prepared on my PC using Office 2010 on the iPad Mini. I've read that using another cloud program like Dropbox might be the way to go. Pleas advise
On the assumption it is incorrect and I can put Word docs onto iCloud and view them on the iPad mini, how do I do it. My heads in a spin

(what a terrible user name I've chosen, can I change it or can I open another account, I've only made a few posts?).

iCloud works best syncing across multiple Apple devices. It means your email, bookmarks, contacts, calendars, photos etc are all available to you, whichever device you happen to be using.
If you use Apple’s iWork suite (pages, numbers, keynote) you can store these files in iCloud too. You can start work on one device and pick it up where you left off on another.
If you want to add a word document to iCloud from a PC you should visit iCloud.com in a browser and log into your account. You can launch Pages(beta) from there as a web app and drag your word document in to it. You will be able to access it from either a web browser on another device or through your Pages app on your iOS device or Mac if you have one.
You may simply find Dropbox achieves what you want in your case but you can add word docs to iCloud through Pages if you wish.0 -
Have you tried logging into iCloud.com and uploading your document?0
