Polls don't lie. Stick with Lexus if you're rich, and Toyota if you're not and you'll be fine.
Own a Renault or Fiat and you'll be on your local garages Christmas card list.0 -

While I agree with your Toyota comments, I'm not sure I'd agree with your Lexus one. I've got a mate who had a Lexus Soarer years ago and he had nothing but problems with it. Most unreliable lump of junk he'd ever owned....
until he bought a Proton Satria... oh dear.0 -

Not from my extensive experience, he won't.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
I've been driving VW and SEAT cars on and off (All TDI, different generations) for 10 years now and can put my hand on heart and say I've had zero issues.
Prior to this in 2004 I bought a brand new Vauxhall Corsa that had the no end of issues, water leaks, oil leaks, snapped timing chain. Never again.0 -

Actually, the more I think about it, I'm not sure I agree with his Toyota comment either. Honda were the most reliable manufacturer for about 10 years up until 2013 and the most reliable car on the road according to the Reliability Index is the Honda Jazz... by quite a significant margin.
In fact, here's the top 10:
1 Honda Jazz 2.00
2 Mitsubishi Lancer 6.00
3 Vauxhall Agila 8.00
4 CHEVROLET KALOS 9.00
5 Toyota Yaris 13.00
6 Suzuki Alto 15.00
7 Mazda MX-5 16.00
8 Suzuki Liana 18.00
9 CITROEN SAXO 18.00
10 Honda HR- V 18.00
It's worth noting that cost of repair is also factored.0 -

Clearly he hasn't heard of the massive recall recently involving sticking accelerators! Sounds like he knows a lot about cars. :rotfl:
EDIT; Wish you hadn't posted that list... he's going to want to know where Fiat is!!PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

I must admit, it's been a rough few years for Toyota. Up until the last 10 years, they had a squeaky clean reputation. They've obviously got the sticking accelerators at the moment, and a few years ago, they had a major recall over the anti-lock brakes failing due to some other reason, I forget what it was.
To be fair to Toyota, at least they admit their faults. VW haven't always been too keen to do so. They never fully admitted the notorious pedal box problem on MK1 Bora's, MK4 Golf's, 6N2 Polo's and Lupo's.0 -
EDIT; Wish you hadn't posted that list... he's going to want to know where Fiat is!!
Don't worry, Fiat are doing okay. The Fiat Brava clocks in at a respectable 59, just above the Honda CR-V. The FIAT 500 is 62 above the Honda S2000, the Panda is 76 above the Subaru Legacy and ULYSSE is 81 above the Ford Mondeo.
All of which have reliability ratings in the very high green zones.
Here's the bottom 10:
1 AUDI RS6 1126.00
2 BMW M5 691.00
3 Porsche 911 996 589.00
4 Mercedes-Benz CL 576.00
5 Mercedes-Benz V-Class 566.00
6 Bentley Continental GT 525.00
7 Mercedes-Benz GL 510.00
8 Mercedes-Benz SL 500.00
9 Mercedes-Benz R-Class 471.00
10 Audi Q7 470.00
I'd say cost must be one of the reasons why they're so low, fixing a Merc isn't cheap.0 -

At least they admit their faults... two words: Renault; bonnets.
As I've mentioned before though, the part that Toyota recalled was manufactured by GM -- industrial espionage? Wouldn't put it past them!0 -

And going back a way Ford Pinto fuel tanks.
Always been a Toyota fan, although the newest I've owned (and still do) is from 1995.
I think the next car I buy will be a GT86 or BRZ. 0
