Money off voucher for an old debt?

Hi all,

Yesterday I received a money off voucher for a very old debt. The debt is £319 (the reminders etc were going to the wrong address) but Aktiv Capital have given me a voucher for £288, meaning I pay £31 to clear the debt. Are these vouchers legitimate? Would the firm come after me at a later date to collect the balance?

You need to ask them to confirm in writing that any payment you make will settle the account in full, and that the debt will be marked as settled on your credit report. Some companies will take the money and register as partially satisfied rather than settled.

If it is more than 6 years since you last paid or acknowledged the debt in writing, then there is an MSE voucher for 100% off as letters in this link.

Read the fine print on the voucher. It may be as worthless as your agreement to pay your original debt.
Why did you not pay your creditors ?

  • Does sound a lot lot a scam to get you to take responsibility for the debt, hook you with the 'voucher' and then reel you in for the rest of the debt once you acknowledge the debt by making a payment.

My own experience is to treat all DCAs with a large degree of scepticism.
