Question about incorrect data on report

Hi, I hope someone may be able to help advise me.

I have checked my credit history and nothing adverse on there. However there is a store card taken out ten years ago which I was under the impression would have been cancelled as the store in question closed two years later. They have still reported up to Dec 2013. Apart from not having a card for this account, it seems to be registered at a very old address which is reflected on my report.

I also have a catalogue credit account which I wasn't aware they had gone ahead an opened showing for a previous address, it would have been me that accidentally opened it without realising whilst signing up. This again reflects the wrong address on a different credit report.

My aim is to apply for a credit card to establish a line of credit to improve my chances of a successful mortgage application at a later date.

Firstly, will these incorrect addresses cause me problems on a credit card application?

And secondly, I will need to sort them out, but have no information regarding the account numbers etc., is it going to be a challenge to get the addresses sorted, or close them? And if the store card is in fact still active am I best off to close it or keep it?

Sorry for it being a bit of a long one! Any advice appreciated.

Unlikely the addresses would be a major issue I'd think, assuming these have no balances and that you have other credit accounts as the correct address and are on the electoral roll at the correct address.

That said it makes sense to at least get the addressess change and probably cancel them.

Unlikely the store card remaining would be a particular benefit to your credit file but it could depend on what else your file shows.

I'd write to whoever is reporting to the credit reference agencies and provide as much info as your can and both the old and new address and ask for them to be closed.

    Thank you for replying :)

The catalogue account shows as settled yet never used. The store card again had a balance but paid off straight away and I assumed it had been closed but it shows as open and they have reported up until Dec 2013.

I ran into debt after a major life event and paid off the majority and unfortunately a small sum ended up being neglected and now fallen off my history and statute barred. My history shows only a current account on my records and the catalogue account, except noddle which shows the store card still active at an incorrect address which I only was aware was still open when I checked.

I'm eager to get my credit history in the best form asap, would the companies be able to deal with me over the phone? Or is it likely to be a long process?

Edit - I have no other credit bar my current account reporting, no overdraft.
