O/S Daily Sunday 23rd February 2014
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light, cloudy and overcast – blustery again. Dry underfoot but certainly looks like it could rain at some point during the day.

Dinner last night was HM quiche, jacket potato and salad. Treats from the tins for those that had room.

I’m pleased with what I achieved yesterday – did visit the new SM again – but had a voucher for points for buying the newspaper and had a £10 money off £30 shop voucher. As it’s a new store there’s loads on offer, so bought non-perishables, huge pack of toilet rolls, large box of washing powder etc. We have an event in a few weeks and DH has said we’ll take some wine (it will only be used if other supplies run dry!) so purchased a box of red wine which took me over the £30 so got £10 taken off the bill. I’m only including some of these purchases in my food spends as some of it falls into another budget. Did get all our bedding dry on the line – got it folded and put in the airing cupboard as although it was dry – it needed to be aired. Did get some baking done at last, made a boiled fruit cake, 2 doz twinks, and a batch of choc chip cookies.
Also then made the quiche for last night’s dinner – which got eaten and enjoyed by us all. We’re going out for dinner tonight – so no big roast for me to cook today – but we will be having a cooked brunch type breakfast later to last us through until we eat tonight. Have a good menu plan in place and also have enough alternatives to be able to be flexible too, so if plans don’t work out we can swap things around too. The fridge is packed full – as are the storecupboards and freezer – so must make sure perishables don’t get wasted.

Did some more caravan admin work yesterday and waiting on a reply – this is now becoming urgent and want to get this issue sorted – definitely by the end of the this week.

On a good note, I managed to book tickets for a show we’ve wanted to see for the past 4-5 years and never been able to get tickets for the right time and place – have now managed to do that – so we’re both very happy. Have booked a hotel too, and it’s near DH’s birthday – so is his birthday prezzie all sorted.

Have a peaceful Sunday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning nmlc and to all who cross/follow,
After yesterdays wonderful sunny weather we are back to rain and wind today.
I did all of the washing and ironing yesterday. Need to have a hoover through this morning. Have got some pastry in the freezer so will get some cheese straws made. Also need to make some sort of cake or buns.
I have to go shopping this morning. Will get that out of the way as soon as they open. I should have gone yesterday really.
Girls are still in bed, hubby is at work.
We will be eating our roast chicken dinner when hubby gets home from work tonight.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning all,

Dry here atm but sky is a bit grey looking. Yesterday turned out lovely and I got all the washing dried on the line, its been on the airer overnight and will be put away this morning (I don't do ironing !)

Got to run dd to work in a while then home for a quick tidy round then on with the handles, should get them finished and on today.

Not sure about dinner I do have some puff pastry in the freezer so I might make an open flan type thing with cheese etc and bake that off with some garlic roasted spuds.

Will go and strip the bed in a while and get that on to wash.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone,

    Molly, Snoozer Hugs.

Hilstep Glad the funeral went well.

Gers Sorry that you have had a tough time.

Up early for DD2's netball to find that it has been cancelled. Oh well the rest of the family can have a lie in!
Off out for a meal tonight to celebrate DS's 18th, we are going to a Thai restaurant that is DS's favourite.

I made Chick pea burgers and HM bread rolls (cobs round here) last night, it was delicious.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

Wet and very windy here, had to shut the bedroom window as the wind was howling! Couldn't put the washing out yesterday as the tree was being taken down which was a shame as it would have dried.

Tree chaps were brilliant, had the tree down in about 3 hours. It looked to be a difficult job with fences, sheds and telephone wires all over the place. Very scary watching the guy up in the tree with a chain saw swinging about! Anyway, they will be back today to chip all the bits. Next door are getting a log burner so they have taken lots of the wood - had a good laugh with them as we were moving it. Felt like I got to know them better so feeling quite happy about being here with good neighbours now.

Washing on the airers, need to hoover through before lunchtime - I have a gin tasting session this afternoon with a friend - could get messy!!

Hope you all have a good Sunday. Take care. XX

    Hi everyone,

It's annoying that the weather has turned again because DH is supposed to be helping DS with their fence this afternoon.

The slow cooked brisket was delicious and we have quite q bit left over. There's no room in the freezer though so I'll turn some of it into soup I think and there should be another two meals straight from it, will see how it goes.

I'm waiting to hear from DD that she's back home from Mexico - it's her birthday but I won't be able to see her today.

    Morning all,

hillstep glad it went well, sounds lovely.
redruby I don't iron either, life's too short, unlike my mum who irons everything including bedding, tea towels:eek:
We had such a lovely evening, the food was lovely and the kids and their partners great company, a fab game of articulate and much hilarity followed and a few sore heads this morning.
Not much happening today. The bedding is in already so just our bed to make and some washing to put away.
Something quick for dinner and a nice relaxing day. DGS home today so a film and popcorn this afternoon.
Off for a cup of tea. Have a good Sunday x

  • Good morning everyone :)

Grey and blowy here but at least it's not raining. If it brightens up a bit, I may even try some washing outside.

I am another one who does not iron but am lucky enough to have a wonderful DH who actually likes ironing! He irons all his own shirts and then does any bits I need.

Am working on my spreadsheet and trying to calculate how soon we can be debt free. Now I am wishing my life away.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

Damp here this morning but it is supposed to brighten up later.
Fish fed, hubby & I have had breakfast, he's now gardening I'm having a lazy day I need to be rested for work tomorrow.
I ironed the holey rags that are laughing called hubby's 'work uniform' 3 polo shirts, 5 years old, washed and worn repeatedly, they are wearing through on the collars but 'there is no money in the budget' for replacements!
Roast beef for dinner today, the beef is sliced & frozen, left over from Christmas, with carrots & cabbage from the garden, cauli cheese & yorkies from the freezer & roasties.
Lots of knitting or crochet for me today, depends how much the day brightens up, which one I do, if it drab, I'll crochet as I can do baby blankets with my eyes shut.
    Have a lovely day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
