Hi not sure if this is the correct place for this if not could some one point me in the right direction.
Would anyone report some one who is abusing the kindness of Social Services.
I know some one who has been given furniture from Social Services to furnish her house she is now selling it on a page in Facebook. I am angry that anyone would think about doing this as there are many needy people out there and she could be doing some one out of some thing they may need.

Hi woodbine,
She told me, She was selling a sofa that was she said was 3 days old for £50. I asked her why she was selling a 3 day old sofa so cheap and she said she got it from Social Services and she didn't need it as she already had a sofa. She was selling other stuff decides this. I ended up telling her I thought it was disgusting thing to do and I was polity to to F**k off as it was nothing to do with me.

I don't understand why you are surprised. People do it with Freecycle/Gumtree too! I was surprised at how tight people who buy off Gumtree could be. We put up contents of MIL house on Gumtree for £10/20 after being harassed when we had previously put stuff on Freecycle. The number of people who turned up with no intention of paying. A man still owes us £10 for a dining suite that he loaded into his car before remembering he only had a fiver on him! He promised to come back with balance!

Hi poppy9,
I have never come across anyone doing this and so blatantly actually telling people what she was doing. If she had shut her mouth and not said it she probably would have got it sold. I for one would have probably bought it. Until she said that I would have given it back to them and asked them to pass it on to some one who needed it. Maybe I am to honest.

As you got such a rude response (probably pricked her conscience) I'd be tempted to take a screenshot and let Social Services have it, but arguably she could come up with some excuse (and may already have thought of what to say if she gets caught and SS might take so long to investigate - assuming they bother - that the furniture has gone anyway. Presumably she won't be able to get any more furniture from them? Surely SS must have provided the furniture based on an assessment so why flog things she supposedly needed?
If you do report her she'll probably guess it was you. You might not want to risk the aggro, but as someone who's donated unused furniture to "help" people like that I can definitely share your frustration.0 -
Hi poorlittlefish,
Her comments caused such an uproar on the facebook page that she eventually got banned of it so there is no evidence that she said what she did.
I am of the same opinion as you I would be gutted if I knew I had given some thing away and some one was cashing in on it. The thought of it makes me sick. She obviously lied to get it in the first place. She was selling oil filled heaters, beds, a fridge, and a cooker as well. Anyway it turned out the sofa wasn't 3 days old it was only 3 days old to her because that was when she got it from Social Services. It could have been any age for all I knew.
There are lots of people who commented on this so she wouldn't necessarily know it was me who reported her. I don't know her personally I wouldn't want to know some one who is so dishonest to be truthful.

SS probably won't do much. I know there is a charity that provides new goods for people in need locally after say the birth of a child and they apply for a grant for the same item after the next baby arrives as they sold the first lot.
Sadly when people have had to put in little effort to obtain somthing they don't value it or appreciate the kindness of others.

It might not be the 'right' thing to do, but, legally, if she is given furniture, she can do what she likes with it.
I worked a long time at SS, and junkies were regularly given stuff, which they promptly sold to get their next fix.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.
