The price of attending a wedding!

Options
I've been invited to a close friend's wedding and it's costing me a fortune.

Two hen parties, one away cost me £200 and OH on stag £150! Next one will cost me about £100 and same for OH on stag.

The wedding venue is too far to drive and the hotel room is £175!

I am delighted to be an invited guest but didn't realise how much it was going to cost!

Hey you're lucky it cost me almost £1000 to go to one of my relatives wedding in Cyprus, i kept saying i didn't want to go. I wish i'd stuck to my guns and not let them pressurise me,
It was very nice but i can think of better ways i could have spent the money.

You should definitely be told before you finalise hen parties etc how much you will have to pay

I think it is perfectly acceptable to only attend one hen do,so don't feel that you have to attend both

As for wedding, could you stay nearby in a travelinn etc or check groupon for offers
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • Why would you attend 2 hen and stag parties?

Surely they have two as not everyone could make it - surely it's one or the other and not both?

    There are only 25 guests
at the wedding and the bride is my oldest and closest friend. She felt the cost of the first hen snowballed when one of her work colleagues - who isn't going to to the wedding sort of took over. The second one is a meal but by the time you add drinks and taxi thats another £100 spent!

Well they had one for the group of friends plus work colleagues but then she's having another one nearer the wedding for her mum/MIL, some aunts etc. to attend and it would look odd if I wasn't there.

My friend has told everyone not to buy gifts as it's costing so much to attend wedding and there is no other hotel nearer that would work out cheaper by the time you factor in taxis and the whole wedding party is having exclusive use of the hotel.

She is feeling quite bad about how the cost has mounted up for everyone and has told me I don't need to come to 2nd do etc. but as I said she's a close friend and has been there for me for over 20 years and I'm sure this will be her last wedding!

Sorry but there's no way I'd be spending that kind of money no matter how close the person geting married was! Hw far away is the wedding as I for one only go to weddings near enough to travel home.

It's about an hour away. If we weren't close then I would have declined.

Luckily we've kitted ourselves out in the sale and used some bits of our existing wardrobe.

It does seem though to be the norm now for more expensive Hen/Stag parties. When I got married (a very long time ago!!!) it was norm just to go out on Town. Now it has to be a night away at least. One of my nieces had to go to Spain for her BF hen party as she was bridesmaid and felt it was expected. It cost her £400.

When you said it was too far to drive I was thinking much further than an hour away as that's in my opinion not too far.

It's too far and a bit remote to ask someone to take us and pick us up and neither myself or OH is volunteering to drive:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Then you have decided to stay over and that's not the distance but some other reason that means driving would be problematic. :(

  • We've got 7 weddings to go to this year and only two are local! It's not cheap being a guest but we are managing to find cheap accommodation and I'm going to be raiding my mums wardrobes for dresses. I've only been invited to one hen do so far and paid for that last year fortunately.
