Company has no record of my debt

Hello, I've posted this here as it's related to my credit report but feel free to move it if somewhere is more relevant.
I have a defaulted debt from 2009 with Lloyds TSB from a unpaid back overdraft, I was paying this back monthly for awhile but stupidly I moved house, forgot about it and never jumped back on it as I should have.
I want to clean up my credit record and with good faith wanted to start paying it back, so today I phoned the debt collectors they had put it over too, who said they haven't had the debt for 5 months, I think this roughly correlates to when Lloyds and TSB split(?), on the phone he made out he doesn't know who is now responsible.
So next I phoned Lloyds as on my credit report with noddle it currently says Lloyds Bank, but they have no record of me as a customer and suggested phoning TSB, which I did, and they also have no record of me as a customer.
So my question is how should I proceed now? Of course I'm thinking 'if no one has the debt on record then I can get it fully removed from my credit report!" but I don't honestly know if it will be that simple or if it will throw up a can of worms somewhere. The 6 year period from default ends in June 2015 so I don't know if it's best to wait it out.
Just looking for any advice or anyone been in a similar situation before? Thanks.

Chances are it's been sold on and the new owners haven't got round to you yet. Or it's in a queue to be sold so no one has access to the details.
Just wait, someone will likely contact you.
When was your credit report last updated by Lloyds?:beer:0 -
Forgot to mention, you won't get it removed from your file for that reason.:beer:0

Ah yes didn't think of that! the Equifax statutory report I got a few days ago says it hasn't been updated since September 2012, but on Noddle it says it was updated December 2013.
I did think it's possible it's been sold on as you mentioned, I just thought the Lloyds guy I spoke to on the phone would be able to point me in the right direction if that was the case. Cheers.0 -
If it's due to be removed in 2015 i wouldn't bother paying it as this may entitle the account to be on your credit file for another six years.
Hope this helpsYou have no rights until you know about them.:)0 -

Not true. Paying a defaulted account does not make it stay on longer. It is still removed 6 years from the default date.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Put the monthly amount you were going to propose in to a separate pot.
If someone contacts you after a long delay you can offer this as a full & final settlement.0 -
If someone wants paying they will be in touch!Still rolling rolling rolling......
