Advice please re: credit file mortgage application

Hi I'm new here. I hope I'm posting in the right place :/
So my husband and I have put an offer in on a house and it's been accepted. We at first time buyers and have arranged an appointment for our mortgage application with natwest (who we both bank with and have done for years) next Tuesday. I thought I'd check our credit files yesterday so to see how things were looking even though I was pretty sure both our credit histories were fine. With experian we both have excellent ratings. Equifax however my husbands score is still excellent while mine is poor! Looking through I found I have a default for £256 dated 2010 with a mobile phone company which I was completely unaware of. This default doesn't show up on experian. Anyway I called the phone company and they have agreed to remove the default if I paid in full (which I did)but this will take a little while. Will this default wreck our chances of getting a mortgage with only a 10% deposit?
I thought maybe this default would have caused a few problems through recent years but I was able to get a natwest credit card and unsecured loan no questions asked. I don't understand and this is driving me crazy! Should I postpone the mortgage application?
Thanks for your answers in advance :)
Cherry.

    The credit scores/ratings mean nothing.

Your chance of success I guess comes down to whether the lender searches via just Experian.

I'm highly cynical that the default will be removed. Did you receive anything in writing?

I only called the mobile company yesterday. I did however ask them to put everything in writing. I called again today. I guess i'll just have to wait and see!
  • Why would you put in an offer on the house without having see if you can even get a mortgage first?

If they remove the default, it could takes weeks. IF they even do it, they don't have to.

Because that's the way it works with natwest....
We were told to do an intention to lend application which was fine, then we had to get an agreement in principle which was also fine we were then told we couldn't go any further with our full mortgage application until an offer was accepted.
  • I think you will be fine if you have the AIP, means they already have credit checked you.

Ouch! You should have checked your credit file earlier.

The phone company could have lied to you. Was the debt actually yours?

Check which agency NatWest uses- you might be in luck.
  • Hi, how did this go with Natwest? I have just received an Intention to Lend and told to find a house and make an offer and then we can progress the mortgage application further. However I have an old default on my credit file, so am looking for some advice.... Did your mortgage go through ok, despite the issues with your credit file?

We have just had the same problem... partner and his dad are getting a mortgage together for our house.

Received a MIP 3 weeks ago.
Put an offer in on a house - accepted.
Booked Santander full mortgage application 2 weeks ago for today.
Paid deposit to the Solicitor. (Received contract with them from the seller Solicitor today)
Met with Mortgage Adviso spent 2 hours with him to be declined. Mortgage Advisor was really helpful went through credit files and partners is fine but father in laws had 1 thing wrong.
Anyway found out it was his other son with the same name has taken something out in his name under a different address as father in law but with same date of birth. Don't know weather the cra has put it in fil account by mistake but because of the little brother it's messed everything up!!! So annoyed but the Mortgage Advisor did say he would call them tomorrow to advise where to go. He said if fil paid them that the underwriters may refer it because he could afford to buy the house outright etc but this all just seems silly when it's not hos debt!!!
