3 conservatory quotes, all seem high

Options
I'm planning to have a conservatory installed. What I'm going for is a fairly standard 3x3.5m-ish uPVC lean-to with a dwarf wall.

From my research on the internet it seems like I should expect to be paying in the region of £8000-£10000 for this, but all three quotes I've had have been in the £14000 to £16000 range.

There's a couple of mitigating factors; I'm in the South-East of England which is presumably more expensive, the ground needs raising a few inches, there's a drain access point to build over that'll require an access hatch and there's a downstairs bathroom that juts out slightly so the conservatory shape won't end up entirely square.

Despite all that, the quotes still seem too high to me. Do I have unrealistic expectations, or should I carry on getting further quotes?

Are you getting your quotes from conservatory companies?
We found that going to a dedicated conservatory company pushed up the price...
We got good quotes from window companies and also from plasticad type roofing companes...
It might be worth widening your search slightly to at least see if the figures you have bee given are in the right ballpark or not.

  • The quotes I got (ordered most expensive first) were from Everest, Countryside Windows and a local conservatory company.

it could be done for 10k but that would be very basic spec, just the building work and conservatory install, at 10k you would struggle to find a company to include plastering electrics etc very unlikely to be a glass roof either. the price you have been quoted is reasonable if its glass roof and includes plastering and electrics
  • This is with a plastic roof, no plastering, but does include price of electrics.
  • Does seem a bit on the higher side to me and I thought I am paying too much. We have finally paid a deposit to a local guy who wasn't very cheap but we found him credible, let's hope it is true.

I was quoted £16K from some national companies as well and also £10.5K from a local chap but we are going with £12K and money permitting will get some additional landscaping, patio etc. from the same guys.

To give you an idea, the work involves [listing the main bits only]

3m x 4.5m Georgian/Edwardian mix due to angling at one end

Glass roof and all glass panels, no dwarf wall

Relocation of kitchen drain to the side

Relocation of external tap to the side

Building over manhole with access hatch [very similar toyours]

    Relocation of kitchen extractor vent

    Plastering on all exposed walls

    Electric heater and 4x points

    No flooring though
