Cheap energy club new build cannot find energy supply region

I am buying a new build property which has not yet been built.

I wanted to get an idea for the cheapest energy supplier, so put the postcode and neighbours house number into the search form and it came back with

"Sorry! We cannot find your energy supply region so are unable to switch you. Have a look at the Cheap Gas & Elec guide for alternatives"

I am told by the builders the site has full gas and electric and cannot understand why it is telling me it cannot find my supply region from my postcode which is in the West Midlands area.

Comments

  • If it's not yet been built, the postcode may not be on PAF.

Will it definitely be in the Midlands?

If so, just use any old postcode - WV1 1ST is somewhere in Wolverhampton.

Bear in mind that what is cheapest now is unlikely to be in a few months time.
  • The house next door with the same postcode as mine has a gas and electric supply and is currently occupied.

Postcode is PAF valid, just my number has not been registered yet hence why I chose the neighbours door number.

It maybe on a mpan 17 which isnt area pacific and can cause issues, also is likely to be an IGT
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

So I cannot choose the cheapest energy supplier on comparison sites and I'm confined to this one Mpan / IGT supplier which seems to be against what Martin advises us to do in terms of switching.

Martin doesnt work in the utility industry, you can compare but will need to use a postcode in your area of another property thats not newbuild.

But you will have issues transfering also straight away, as dummy postcodes are used on registration by the IGT
