EMA In year re-assessment query?

Hi

My 16 year old has been in receipt of EMA since Jan this year. In April my salary dropped by 25% and according to the web site and info that came with it- "in-year" assessments are only carried out where the parents income drops by 15% or more. I called and was told to send in proof and then I got a letter saying that it would only change the payment for the next academic year. I queried this and have received a letter that states the following;-

"EMA for 2006/7 is assessed using the income for tax year 2005/06. In-year re-assessment can take place if income is expected to drop below 15% during the following tax year (i.e.6/4/2006-4/4/2007)

As your salary decreased with effect from 1st April 2007 this will not affect the award for the current session but will be taken into account for the 2007-2008 session"

Is it me that's missing something? I thought an in year assessment would mean that the current award would be affected - if it did my 16 year old would have qualified for another £10 a week from 1st April until the end of term which would have been a big help.

Is there anyone who works with EMA who could confirm that what they are saying is correct ( in which case it is me being a dummy!)

Many thanks

bump - can anyone help with my query? Anyone on here who works with EMA and who can explain about in -year assessments and when they apply & how they work?

It just doesn't make sense to me ( but maybe I'm just being dumb) how we don't qualify for an in-year reassessment based on my lower income.
