Do make sure the technician is properly registered with the General Dental Council as a CLINICAL dental technician though, and not just an ordinary dental technician doing an 'under the counter' job.

So I'm still confused why it's gone from that to doing it under GA and at no cost? Surely that means there was not a concern before enough to do it, and now there is?
All I can say is, 15 years ago my denist took one look at the X rays of my wisdom teeth and declared that there was no way he could take them out under a local, and I'd need to go to hospital and have it done under GA. When the consultant showed me the X ray, and explained that they'd most likely have to remove a little bone to get them out, or would have the cut the tooth up and remove them in peices, I was so glad my dentist had the sense to admit he wasn't that special.0 -
I always try to visit my dentist once in every two months. This practice helps me to check my dental health.0

I googled and used a technician who has full license , that really is important.
The NHS set were great for the first 6-8 weeks and my own dentist (who is great) altered them when they became uncomfortable but he told me they would become looser and I would eventually have to use a fixative.
By the 8 weeks they had a life of their own!
Front rocked when I chewed and I had a really sore spot on the roof of my mouth
Never ignore these sore spots
The technician took a mould with the denture in place , where I had to bite down hard for about 3 mins then off I went for 2 hours shopping with OH (who did all the talking)
Came back and they were perfect , no need for any fixative , they fit like a glove.
I really don't know why some Dentists tell people that temp dentures will be uncomfortable and that you will just have to suffer it until your gums heal. Why don't they recommend a Clinical technician ?
The one I used was Poppy Fields Denture Clinic in Bromsgrove worcestershire0 -
Dentists can do this relining too (although probably not as quickly as they then send them off to a technician - so probably more like 24 h). But - if you do them really soon after the extractions, they will just need doing again a few weeks or months later as the healing and shape changing continues.
There is no problem doing multiple relines, other than the extra cost. (I'm not sure how it plays out with NHS regulations either, if being done on the NHS). So dentists would often recommend a bit of 'putting up with it' just to reduce the times it needs to be done. How to find a dentist.

TBH putting up with temporary dentures that move around when you chew , slip when you smile .. are completely uncomfortable and make you Gag after 2 months is horrible when you have gone through a complete removal of top , bottom or all teeth..
To go without the one set of NHS teeth for 2 hours let alone 24 hours is hard enough,, .. £60 is worth it. even if you have to have them relined twice ..£120 for a perfect fit over the time the gums need to heal by someone soley trained in this is worth it ,someone who can then advise on the permanent dentures and does not tell you , you just have to put up with it and use a fixative ..it really is not true.

You are a dentist, do you advise clients that they can visit a Clinical dental technician directly when they are feeling discomfort after having any type of temporary denture fitted?0 -
I dont. I don't know any near by plus few of my patients would be happy to pay privately for this service. You are in the minority believe me! I get a lot of people complaining they have to pay full stop.0

And good luck to your dad, although Im sure he wont need it.
What I can say is that he will feel a different person once he is sorted.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Sorry
Not the point.. Dentists seem to think full extractions are the end .. patient has to have full extractions, top or bottom or both .. you have false teeth now , learn to live with it
.The patient then has to put up with the consequences for 6-8 months, full temporary dentures are not the be all and end all by using fixatives ,they endure limited choices of what food they can eat because they are told to put up with it
People who have this procedure should be given all the options when having to face this .. Why are they not advised that temp dentures will become looser as their gums shrink BUT they can be relined and that they do not have to come to you to have this done?
In fact they don.t have to come back at all..if it is a full extraction of all teeth
By the way .. you say you know no one near? how far away is the dental technician you use and is he a clinical dental technician or a dental technician?0 -

No - they're my patients and the responsibility to ensure their comfort is mine.
Fobbing them off by telling them to go down the road to get problems fixed is completely alien to the way I work. How to find a dentist.
