How much to keep in current account?

I keep in whatever is left after bills etc. Once I get paid again, the remainder from the previous months goes into savings. I don't have a set amount kept in the current account but it's never got below £200.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

These days several banks and building societies are offering much higher rates for their current accounts than other savings accounts.
For example, Nationwide's Flex Direct pays 5% for the first year, up to the sum of £2500, and other banks and BBs are doing similar.
Therefore, it makes more sense to keep a couple of thousand pounds or so in these accounts, to take advantage.
That's true but you get taxed on that interest so need to do the sums. In previous years it's always been better to do ISA first and then the best rate you can get on another account.Buzzybee90 wrote: »Thanks everyone for the advice, really appreciate it
I think I will leave 600 in there and move the other £600 into the joint savings account as my isa is full!
Won't be long until you can open another one, but the rates look woeful.:(0
