I have used Martin's template to contact Lloyds TSB as was to discuss the fees over last several years as they insisted i needed a Platinum/Silver etc bank account to hold an overdraft of £3600, as it was a joint account i sent a similar letter to same on behalf of wife, as suggested in the advice part of this forum. My wife got a phone call this am from Lloyds customer service quite antagonistic and adversarial, wife pointed out that we did not/could not use Mobil phone insurances, travel insurances, possibly used AA once in so many years, and was miss sold as above.
Awaiting events but i will hit them with 'Ombudsman' if needed in later communication.
Good start i think but not sure how much if anything i and wife are owed.

You didnt need one for that level of overdraft but it would probably be cheaper thant the standard classic account.
The ombudsman will look at whether you used the facilities or were in a position to use them. If you used the AA service then you are probably stuffed.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Based on the admission from your wife, I would say your claim of mis-selling will be dismissed resulting in nothing being refunded.
You can hit them with what you want, but the admission is quite damning, I'm afraid.0 -
Sorry, using any facility provided by the account would indicate it was not mis-sold.bandicoot421 wrote: »wife pointed out that we did not/could not use Mobil phone insurances, travel insurances, used AA once
You make it sound as if the Bank will simply capitulate at the merest hint of the Ombudsman.bandicoot421 wrote: »i will hit them with 'Ombudsman' if needed in later communication.
You think so?bandicoot421 wrote: »Good start
You aren't "owed" anything, but if you make a valid and robust complaint the extra costs of the account could be refunded to you.bandicoot421 wrote: »not sure how much if anything i and wife are owed.
Instead of conducting this via the telephone, I recommend you continue your correspondence only in writing. If you do this, it will be far easier to refer it to FOS at a later date and you will be less likely to be "caught out" in the same manner.0 -
Got a phone call from customer services Lloyds today, after a little to and fro with the words ombudsman etc, even though i DID use the AA once in 2008, they have promised to send me a cheque for (drum roll) £1064.17p £800 for the charges and £229 for interest with (another drum roll please) £25 as a good will gesture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Total cost to me 1 hrs time and £3 in postage!
Thanks Martin for the site, sorry all you naysayers,
don't ask don't get!0
