  • You can get an EasyJet return flight to Barcelona for £90, so to pay that sum for a credit card for me is not an option as I am not a heavy spender with a large income. I Just use my credit card for the weekly household bills and petrol. I will stick to a free credit card scheme where you can slowly accumulate points. However I do not think that Lloyds Duo Credit Card where you have to spen £18000 to collect enough points for a return flight (as quoted to Barcelona) is a very good return when you can get cheap flights deals on line. The NatWest Your Points looks better value if you are a person who not spend vast sums on credit cards. That is just my opinion to suit my circumstances.

AmEx has a free card as well which accrues Avios although the signup bonus is lower (I think it's 9000 points for a £1000 spend in the first 3 months).

The thing is you are collecting Frequent Flyer miles.

So if you're neither a Frequent flyer or a big spender, then earning those miles to get your "free" flight will be a long journey.

Best stick to EasyJet and Ryan air bargains.
  • I gave up on collecting points for flights once the Air Miles scheme stopped. The new Avios scheme is more favourable to anyone wanting to use provincial airports but it is considerably worse if you were flying from Heathrow, Gatwick or Manchester. In addition you pay taxes which were included under the old Air Miles scheme.

You don't if you qualify for Reward Saver on European flights.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • To me the Avios scheme for someone just wanting to build up points slowly from household spend like shopping and petrol is a no go. The old Air Miles scheme was so much better and I "Rue" its demise. I now collect points not under Avios for other benefits than do involve flights. I believe it is far better to look for Easy Jet or other flight deals under airlines early booking or promotions.
