Interview tomorrow- what to wear?

It's funny because I asked a few people in real life the other day and everyone said a suit would be overkill and that a smart top and trousers would be fine, but since everyone here says I should wear a suit then I think that's what I'll buy- just to be on the safe side.Knock me down I'll get right back up again, I'll come back stronger than a powered up Pac-Man0

This is what I'm worried about with the suit! I can be quite self conscious sometimes so I know that if I'm the only one wearing a suit I'll def feel like an idiot and will get really nervous. I'm a support worker at the moment and I just wear my usual clothes, which pretty much consists of hoodies and jeans! However I think I'll have to dress a bit smarter with the NHS as the role is a bit different to the standard support worker role, so hopefully others will wear a suit too.Knock me down I'll get right back up again, I'll come back stronger than a powered up Pac-Man0 -

That jacket would be perfect with trousers and a plain t shirt.Living the dream and retired in Cyprus :j

what do you think the interviewer will have on??
Probably a suit?...but I'm not sure. I've only had a 2 job interviews before and neither of the interviewers wore a suit (for my current job it was my line manager who interviewed me and he wore his usual shorts and T-shirt! Lol), but I understand that this probably isn't the norm.Knock me down I'll get right back up again, I'll come back stronger than a powered up Pac-Man0 -

This thread reminds me of another recent thread discussing whether or not to go to an interview clean shaven or with stubble. I think the general consensus was to shave, as no one will ever have a problem with that, but some people are anti-stubble/anti-beard. As the guy above said, what will your interviewer be wearing?
Doesn't have to be an expensive suit but it shows the interview that you've actually made an effort, and I think sub-consciously you'd feel better about the whole thing because you know for definite that you look smart.0 -
Being overdressed is better than being underdressed0

I'm going to go against the consensus here and say I don't think a suit is always the best option.
A well fitted suit does look good but it's not always that easy to find. I'm quite petite but busty and the suits I could afford to buy (e.g. from Primark or Asda) simply don't fit me. A jacket that fits in the chest will be too broad shouldered, a shirt that fits will be too long etc. Even in more expensive shops like Next it's a struggle. Honestly, If I try to wear a suit I end up looking like an incredibly scruffy and awkward school boy!
I always wear smart trousers, a nice top, and a black cardigan to interviews and I've managed to secure several jobs in this get up. It's never crossed my mind that it might be a problem.0 -
Well I had a semi successful shopping trip. I bought that suit jacket and I bought a plum coloured smart, but plain, top to wear under it. But that's all I bought. I couldn't find any trousers in my size and I was too tired to even bother looking for shoes. I was also too tired to try the jacket on and I'm not sure how well it will fit me (I'm like 5ft and a size 8 so clothes often drown me), but I have narcolepsy and when I start getting tired my brain ceases to function properly and I have I make my way home pronto, so I did the best I could. I do have some black trousers I can wear, but I was hoping to get some in a set with the jacket so I don't feel mismatched. I also have some shoes I can wear, they aren't the most comfortable things ever, but they will do, so I luckily got the two most important items.Knock me down I'll get right back up again, I'll come back stronger than a powered up Pac-Man0

Hi, just wanted to say good luck for the interview
I would always wear a dark suit with a bright top so you look formal and confident too
For the type of role you are going for I think that personality must be the most important attribute though, and you sound like a warm and positive person so I am sure you will be fine!!
Please let us know if you get the job0
