selling Lego

I have quite a large amount of lego Star Wars to put on eBay. I have boxes and instruction manuals for most (albeit some are a bit tatty) but the pieces themselves are all in one giant box!
My question is, am I best to sell as one giant job lot or, is it worth devoting the hours to separating the pieces out and selling each item individually (bearing in mind I would be doing by hand so would prob involve some human error )
All thoughts welcome

If you want to get the best price for this you are going to have to put together each one and photograph the finished model. Listing them all separately with the model's code number included.
Bit like trying to sell several jigsaws and saying that all the pieces are there but all mixed up.
Once you turn it into a 'job lot' the value plummets in my experience....0 -
To get the best price you are going to have to sort and build each model. If you do have pieces missing after you have built the models you then have two options - list with missing pieces but make a note in the listing which bits are missing or source replacement pieces.
If it were my lego I would put it away in the loft as star wars lego is really collectable and can only go up in value.0 -
The difference in price on ebay between a job lot & a clear set is well worth the effort.
A fellow Lego mum bought a job lot said to contain a plane kit amongst the rest of the 3 kilos. It took her several nights organising by colour then size, but she downloaded the plan, and built the plane (about 2' long IIRC!), rebagged the extra lego (sold it and recouped a chunk of her eBay spend) then disassembled the plane & completely made her son's birthday! Years later 'the plane' is still the subject of awed Lego mum conversation on the playground.
Don't worry overmuch about human error - after a few kits, your hand/eye/brick coordination sharpens right up!0 -
Hi
I found lists of parts and instructions I needed here:-
http://www.peeron.com/inv
Sorry I don't have time to look if they have Star Wars
To answer your question - I'd have fun making up all the old sets before selling.
aims for 2014 - grow more fruit and veg, declutter0 -
Thank you all so much for your responses - have started sorting already!
Am I best to photograph assembled then? And should I leave that way?
Have noted the comments re keeping in loft and will consider this for rarer pieces though my problem is that the boxes and instructions are usable but far from perfect and I think collectors usually like mint?
Will let you know how it goes - any thoughts re starting prices/reserves?

i'd photograph them assembled plus pictures of the box/instructions
put in the listing the model will be dismantled and put in the box when you send it out, you don't want to post an assembled model as it's more likely to be broken in transit
always worked fine for me
agree with others you will get best price for selling individually
might be worth building each set and noting any parts you are missing - then put in one order via peeron for all the parts you need for all the sets0 -

I would search on ebay for completed listings to give you an idea where to start with your price. I would guess that whatever you start at the sets will find their level just make sure you put the key items in the title (lego code etc).
Take a photo of it assembled and then break it down again for posting - may be an idea to bag it up in sections.
Good luck and happy building - I can lend you a 9 and 5 year old if you need any help.0
