Getoffmyclouds Debt Free Diary

Okay so I thought it would be a good idea to start a debt free diary to keep track of my accomplishments and spur myself on :)

A week or so ago Orange wrote to me to say I had an outstanding bill of nearly £80 on a closed account. I wrote to them and let them know about my financial difficulty and included an outgoings and expenditure form. Yesterday they wrote back and said the account was cleared and no further action would be taken. Wahooooo. So pleased with this as almost £80 off my debts :)

I also paid £12 of my ebay fees off two days ago with profit I had made on Ebay. I also have another £20 or so to come which will go towards Ebay fees and my littlewoods catalogue as I got behind on payments last month.

Looking forward to pay day so I can pay the next lot of installments on my debts :)

  • Hi, well done on starting a diary! It does help - not sure where I'd be without mine to get stuff off my chest in :)

Looking at your signature, you're doing amazingly well so far. So much paid off already! :j

I can't wait until payday too so I can whack some more dollar at the debt. Its a nice feeling :)

I'll be subscribing to keep up! x
  • £17 made in Ebay sales cleared in my account today so £10 off Littlewoods as I had got behind with payments and £7 off Ebay account :)
  • I had a £15 Marks & Spencer voucher sent to me from my life insurance people. Really pleased with this as I was paying around £30 a month, but phoned up and got them down to £8.50 so saving lots every month plus they sent me a voucher :) As I don't really shop at Marks & Spencer and I thought the money would come in more handy, I sold it on Ebay for £12.50. Will make around £10 after postage and fees so that's £10 more towards my debts. It all helps :)
  • Sounds like you're doing really well! All the little extras soon add up to a big deal. Awesome result getting your insurance down by £21.50 a month - that's amazing! :)
  • Pay day which means payment day. £72 paid off Virgin (MBNA) credit card, £138.40 paid off Littlewoods and £10 paid off Ebay.

Also went to pay some off my Capital one credit card, but it wouldn't accept my card for some reason (plenty of money in the bank) so I had to set up a direct debit instead.

Then went to pay my Natwest credit card as usual. All my accounts with Natwest are in the same place when I log in. Tried doing this and it has disappeared so tried adding it and it wouldn't recognise the card. It could be because I wrote to them re. my financial difficulty. Shall have to wait to hear from them.

Loan payment will go out in a few days.
  • Another £10 paid off Ebay debt today from money I have made on Ebay.

Also received a letter from Natwest over the weekend to say they would accept my reduced payment and that they would pass it to their Debt Recovery Department which means they will suspend all interest. I think is a good thing!
  • Another £11.12 paid off Ebay fees today with profit I made on Ebay :)
  • Had a real 'you know your old when....' moment today, but it did make me chuckle to myself so thought I would document it.

I had to go into town to get a few bits today, one being birthdays cards and mothers day cards. Walked straight past Clintons as can't afford their prices. Went to Sainsburys and got some cards for 99p each. Potential saving of £3. Whilst I was in Sainsburys I wanted to get a couple of cooked chickens. Looked at price... £5.79 each. Thought, hmm, that's a bit steep, will look at raw chickens and just cook them myself. Cheapest was £5 each so when I left Sainsburys I went round the corner to Lidl and bought two raw chickens, one plain and one garlic and herb (yummy) to cook myself for £7.48. Saving of £4.10. Then went to Pets at Home to get a new tag for our dog. They wanted £5.99 for two lines of text on a tag or £7.99 for four lines. Thought to myself I will check the internet when I get home as I'm sure I can get that cheaper elsewhere. Just checked Ebay and can get one with 4 lines of text each side of a tag for £3 delivered. Potential saving of £4. That's around £11 I saved today.

The thing that surprises me is how much you can save if you shop around. There used to be a time when I would have just paid the higher amounts and never even questioned it. I suppose I'm still quite new to money saving and it surprises and amazes me how much you can save. And to think I always used to laugh at my nan for going to different shops and snapping up the bargains.

Pay day today so I made the following payments:

    Littlewoods catalogue £85.28
    Natwest Credit Card £54.02
    Virgin Credit Card £125
    Capital One Credit Card £20
Ebay £25 which means it is completely paid off now

Wahoo :) Can't wait to be debt free.........
  • So over the weekend I made £15 in sales on Ebay and also received £33 which I have made on survey sites so I put it all towards my Virgin Credit Card. I need to get as much as I can towards it as I haven't been paying the minimum amount, even though we have an agreement amount to pay back monthly, it's not enough, and my minimum payment this month was £550 and I'm only paying £72 so every penny I have I'm gonna whack towards it until I get that minimum payment down to £72. Not sure how long it will take, but it has to be done.......
