Letter from CPP

Hello , last year i received a letter from the CPP, it said it was important, it said " You are invited to vote on how we review the way your card or identity protection was sold."
There was a voting form and an option to attend a meeting. It had to be submitted by January 2014.
To be honest i thought it was a scam and did not reply.
Now I have received another letter, this one says " important, you may be entitled to compensation for your card protection policy "
It has the same unique reference and policy numbers as the first letter.
However this one, asks me to explain why i want to be considered for compensation.
I vaguely remember cancelling something like this many years ago, but no specific details.
So is this letter genuine, and if so, should i reply and what reason do I give for being considered for compensation.
I have seen on this website, that letters are being sent from the CPP and not to bin them.
Any advice would be much appreciated
