Car rental for new driver? (Aged 28)
Options
So zipcar and most other companies only let you hire a car if you've held a full license for a year. I passed two days ago (first time!) and I don't want to lose the knack, but it looks like the only way to keep driving at this stage is to buy. Unless any of you know a hire alternative? (I live in London, btw).

No ideas other than buying I'm afraid, but I do have to ask one question.
At 28, if you're not intending to buy a car and use it, or if you don't have a job which needs you to drive, why would you just take your test? What was the imperative?0 -
Knowing how to drive is not something you will forget. It took me a year before I got my first car after my test. If your in London, what are you needing a car for, do you commute out?An opinion is just that..... An opinion0

Don't worry you wont lose your knack, I didn't drive for over two years after passing my driving test, I was a little nervous so I decided to have a refresher lesson with my driving instructor, the same day I went and test drove various cars and I was perfectly fine.0

I love travel and after spending three months in the USA last summer, all over the place from Denver to Montana to Hawaii, I realised I needed a car to get around if I was to live anywhere outside of London, in any country. Nothing is worse than not being able to do something because you live in an environment where one relies on the car to be independent. It had nothing whatsoever to do with my life in London.
I've only been learning for three months. I feel very shakey and also I enjoy driving, so why not do it? Why not buy a micra/fiesta? There are also advanced motoring courses I can do. Driving is enjoyable.0 -
Take a lesson every now and them to keep your hand in. Do a pass plus course or similar? It may or may not save you money on insurance when you buy a car but probably cheaper than hiring one.
When i passed my test they said now you can go a learn to drive. The lessons and test only go a small way into teaching you.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Just buy a car or dont drive till you need to. Anything else is a waste of money.0
