Getting rid of black mould on window frames
Comments
-
We have patches of black mould staining on the inner white seals of one of our double glazed windows. Bleach won't remove it and the mould stain seems permanent.
Any ideas what will get rid of it?0 -
Mix bicarbonate of soda with bleach to form a paste. Apply it to the patches of mold and leave for 10 minutes or so. Then just wash it off and the mold will be gone. ( If you don't normally buy bicarbonate of soda it's generally found in the cookery section at supermarkets). This might sound daft but I can assure you from experience that it works.0

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll give it a try when I have a spare moment. Will I need to set a timer in case I may go running around doing other things, forget about the ten minutes and come back to find the mixture has burned through the seals and damaged them ?0

The mold spray from Lakeland is brilliant. All that clutter used to be money0

No the mix does not burn through anything. I only said 10 minutes so that you gave it time to work. Leaving it longer won't cause any problems.0

Just to report back: I have now tried this and is has done a brilliant job at removing what I thought were large areas of permanent black staining. There are one of two small stubborn spots remaining which I can follow up another time but the majority of the black mould staining has completely disappeared.
I have some similar black staining on some sealant around the bath which I will now be trying this treatment on. Thank you again.0 -
Do yo think this would work on little mould patches on bathroom wall ?
Or would it strip the paint ?Going it alone and feeling the pinch

amanndajane - I think it might depend on what type of paint is on your bathroom wall. If it is flat emusion paint it might work. A couple of years ago I did remove some small patches of black mould appearing on a white emulsion ceiling over a bay window by brushing them with a weak solution of bleach & water . I didn't know about the bicarbonate of soda & bleach solution then.
You could first try a tiny test patch on part of the wall which isn't too visible and see if it has any repercussions.0 -
