Rent in Advance on Housing Benefit

How does the rent in advance work whilst on housing benefit and with a private landlord in scotland?
I will pay £400 deposit, and £400 for rent in advance. The deposit is straight forward, but the advance is confusing me.
If I see out a 6 months short term contract on benefits do I get the £400 back at end of contact for both the deposit and rent in advance?, because housing benefit would pay 6X£400 and with my initial £400 that would be 7 months, surely? I can see if I worked and paid all rent myself, the rent in advance would mean I do not pay for month 6. But benefits will pay all 6 months, and my month in advance would be extra? Or am I missing something here?
Thank you

rent is normally paid in advance and housing benefit is paid in arrears so when you leave the property at the end of a tenancy you would get the deposit back from the landlord and a final housing benefit payment which repays the one you paid up front0
