DLA claim likelyhood of being accepted??

I am wondering if I might be able to claim DLA and would welcome any advice prior to starting on that horrendous form.

History, have been unwell for the last 2 years recently found out that I have 2 large cysts on my ovaries I also had a huge undiagnosed ovarian abcess. After surgery to remove the cysts the abcess was found and it was also discovered that my pelvis is full of adhesions which have made it impossible to remove the cysts.

The reason I am wondering about a DLA claim is because most days I am in pain and very tired. It is making it difficult for me to hold down my job and I have been forced to take a lot of time off sick.
Somedays I struggle to stand up straight due to the pain, and leaving the house can also be a struggle. I am able to drive, but I find walking painful. I would dearly love to be able to sleep for 8 hours at night but am woken most nights with pain or needing the bathroom as my bladder has been affected. My bowels are also affected and I regularly have ibs type symptoms.
On a bad day I cannot do anything much but lay in bed. I am reliant on others to do the cooking and the housework.

You can't put in a new claim for DLA any more. It's PIP, whic has stricter criteria. The criteria for PIP is here

Housework isn't counted for PIP. Preparing a meal is.

As IK says, above, you will need to apply for PIP as DLA is no longer open to new applicants aged 16 -65.

Being awarded PIP depends on your care and mobility needs. Cooking a meal for yourself (but not others) will be counted, but not shopping and housework.
  • You should still try with the PIP though, I took advise from the CAB they were very patient with me. I have multiple problems including memory loss due to kidney failure, would have never got through the form otherwise.:j
  • PS Always amazes me that shopping & housework is not included, so living in a dirty house & being unable to get food is ok?

The cooking test is not solely about cooking.
It's a theoretical test - could the person cook if they had the intent to.
The intent is that someone who is so disabled as to be unable to cook is likely to have extra costs - even if they do not choose to cook.
